Tim

Tim Higham brings heartfelt interviews and community service journalism to Monday mornings on Aotea FM.

His memoir, Island Notes: finding my place on Aotea Great Barrier Island, published by The Cuba Press in 2022, found widespread critical acclaim, “a poetic meditation on our contemporary relationship with nature, the cosmos, other humans and ourselves.”

Tim has written dozens of engaging stories about Island life, now collected at https://www.greatbarrier.co.nz/island-stories/, and co-curates the Small Island Big Ideas, the island’s festival for the heart and mind – www.smallislandbigideas.co.nz

Each radio show is co-presented with one of Tim and Julie Anne’s children: Jo, Ella, Harry or Georgie.

A diagnosis of motor neurone disease last year has seen Tim slowing up, happy to let others turn the dials in the studio and spin tracks. His only stipulation is there must be three Van Morrison songs played on every show.

He is loving the spontaneity and surprises in live interviewing.
